How to deal with Teams that become inactive

As this league is built on and is energized by the participation and cooperation of all owners, we cannot function with teams and owners who "ghost" the league.  Accordingly, to keep everyone in the loop, I suggest the following protocols: 1.  Everyone make an effort to log-in to this league at least once a day, even if it is for one minute to check to see if anything is new. 2. Owners who do not post that they are away/busy on the message thread, will be notified by personal message or email if they have not logged on within 7 days. 4. In response to the initial message, (i) in the offseason, the League Office may wait for up to 7 days to await a response to the initial message and may elect to: (a) send a follow-up warning to the team owner that the team is about to be declared abandoned and forfeited or (b) at the League Office's discretion may declare that team as abandoned and forfeited without further notice and (ii) during the season, if no response is received within 24 hours of the initial message, the league office may make lineup adjustments to that team and may elect to: (a) send a follow-up warning to the team owner that the team may be declared abandoned and forfeited without further notice or (b) at the League Office's discretion, the team may be declared abandoned and forfeited at that time.  Repeat violations may be factored in. In either of the aforementioned circumstances, the league office may take any other action deemed necessary for the integrity of the league, including, but not limited to declaring the team abandoned, taking over the operations of the team, and finding a new owner.  In such a case, the team owner will have waived any right to seek a refund for any fees paid this season.

If you keep us in the loop, we will work with you during any issues that you may be experiencing.  But, please do not leave us hanging.

Anyone else in favor of upping the entry fee? Inflation you know is really taking a bite out of the winning. I’d personally like to see it at $100 (helps guys take a tad more serious maybe) but think at least $50

I get wanting to up the fee, but coming from an owner taking over a shitty team who's not competing in atleast 3yrs, I'm not donating $100/year even though I love this league.


As far as the ensuring more participation, I'm totally on board with that. I think signing in every single day is a little much though, everyone has a day or two they are busy with work or life. A couple times a week though should be expected. More than 4day absences or something along those lines should be noted, like vacations business travel or just plain busy as a heads up to the league.

Not looking to increase the fee. I have almost 100% retention in another dynasty league where the prize is a high quality trophy. So, it is more the dedication to fun competition that we want to emphasize with some cash reward.

I agree with the A’s. Most teams are in multiple leagues so tossing more money in, though may incentivize teams to keep active, May make it harder to get teams and keep teams that are rebuilding and are 2-3 years away.

Also agree that logging in once a day, though I try to, May be a bit much especially when life happens. Though rare there are some times I go beyond 24 hours. If something crazy happens my first thought (well maybe) isn’t to log in to let everyone know I am dealing with an emergency or whatever. Honestly I would just be happy to see teams log in at least once a week just to see what’s happening.

Jon had some ideas before about docking or moving back draft picks for no response or no check ins. If that owner abandoned his team and new owner took over, picks would be restored.

Also agree $100 would make it tough to attract new owners. I would have never paid that money to take over my team when I did.

Hopefully we are getting rid of the owners who do not participate. Getting a good team of dedicated owners and keeping everyone active and engaged is key.

Every day is too much. I would say 'care for the team' should be the goal and what that means varies over time for different teams and managers. Sometimes care is just setting fantrax and scoping FAs on fantrax and there's nothing left to do on PB for weeks. Other times it's being here to draft or bid or drop. The hard rules don't make sense for me - suggest instead to use judgement on the length of absence at which it becomes an issue based on tenure/history and situation.

Every day on PB is not necessary for any action most of the year. Also, if you're setting fantrax lineups but haven't been here in 10 days in mid June, that should be fine. Bidding and trading are voluntary and not always needed by teams once constructed well.

Honestly like Monty said we seem to have much better owners in place now so hoping this isnt an issue this year.

I have played FBB for a long time.  I've never had a problem playing my Team.  Sure I missed a SP switch once in a while when family was more important than Fantasy Baseball.  Nothing that happens in this (or any other League) that requires daily monitoring.  Fantrax even allows you to make early roster changes.  I have paid my dues.  I will play to the best of my ability. I don't need to be babysat. I won't be back next year.

This is not intended as accusing any current owner of wrong doing or instituting babysitting. This proposed protocol is designed to maintain a stable and enjoyable league. On a personal note, most of my leagues have near zero turnover and I have been in fantasy a very long time also.
