In the first draft of the schedule I had a team playing its division rival 3 times, 1 team 2 twice and all but 5 of all other teams once. I was able to fix the 2 games against 1 team by going into the 3rd divisional round and swapping opponents in the 2 non-division games each week (19-23). This then only took the number of teams NOT played down to 4... I also swapped rounds 2 and 3 of division play so that the new match ups would fall in round 2 not 3.
The new match ups, the ones you see below set up a unique situation in the fact that this will be the only time the NLE and the ALW will face off, same with the NLW and ALE. I took advantage of this and thought of a way to enhance our schedule and create competition. Much the way the Cubs and White Sox have with the Crosstown Cup I came up with this. Except we will call this set of 10 games....
"The MiLB Cup" - West or East... The Road to the Draft
Now to make it more interesting. The winner of each of these match ups will receive a draft pick. These draft picks will NOT start until after the last pick of the 2nd round. So if the last pick of our draft was 2.20 then these 10 would start at 2.21 and so forth (or if there are conso picks it would start after them). These games will happen in round 2 of division play over weeks 10-14 and will help with hype and build up to the draft.
Simply put yes I know I have come up with another one of my ideas that makes some of you go dear god, but this works. It changes no rules, it adds to league competition which will without a doubt lead to better overall league health. Plus it is just fun and we play this game so we can compete. I have fixed the grid and schedule and it shows how this would work and there is no longer one team you will face twice. The order of picks would be determined by the score of your match up, higher the win, higher the pick and will use standings after week 14 as tie breakers... and it is very easily implemented and tracked, the price is zero and the benefits good... and it effects no one in a negative way... so let's think forward... and we can create a kick ass schedule... I had one thing in mind while working on this and that was the league as a whole...
