2020 Draft, Who wants to play Risk?
As you know 2020 was going to be the first year we allowed international players to be in the draft. However the international signing date was moved to January of next year. What this means for us is that we will have to wait until 2021 to include these players and the 2020 draft will go as it always had.
However I did think of an option that you might like enough to consider
We keep the 2020 draft the way we were going to do it WITH international players. The 2020 class. However if you decide to draft an international player and he DOES NOT sign by the new Jan 15th, '21 deadline then you will lose the player and pick. What you will get as compensation will be a comp pick in the 2021 draft, If you draft a player in 1st this year and lose him to not signing you get a 1st round comp pick in '21, if you draft him in 2nd this year then comp 2nd in next years draft.
Of couse if it were implemented you would just not have to draft an INT to avoid the risk, but the option is there for an owner to take that gamble as long as he knows what he loses if the player does not sign. That means he will be an FA able to be bid on as normal by everyone but you get the comp pick as said. I do not think think playing risk would have any negative effect on anyone other than drafting team unless I am missing something. These comp picks if any would come after RFA comp picks.
I am good either way. I am just ready to get going and as far as getting the draft going a lot of players have signed so if a few more names get locked down we should be able to kick it off soon, maybe help count us down to the season. Come on Meyer and Martin!
In fact what I will probably do is start the draft anyway with no clock and you can pick if your guy is signed and ready to go. Feel free to share your thoughts, I am just spitballing, could be a dumb idea, but I like tossing out options as you never know what catches your attention. Plus I know teams traded picks based on thinking INT would be in there so at least wanted to try.
